who bikurim helps

While small business owners typically face tremendous challenges in a normal situation, challenges within the region are significantly compounded by political pressures, security threats, and the fact that the region is outside Israel’s commercial and residential centers. These small business owners simply do not have the resources in Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley that large cities like Tel Aviv or Jerusalem offer.

Bikurim closes these gaps for family-run small business owners who are experiencing the above challenges and helping them regain financial independence and health in order to achieve long-term stability.

A BIKURIM STORY

In December 2020, Esther Horgan z”l was murdered by an Arab terrorist – for simply being a Jew. Just like many others, Stephen Miller of Philadelphia was struck with shock and sadness. For him, the pain manifested itself into a desire to turn it into positivity. As a result, he became a supporter of Bikurim. Randomly, but arguably, not a coincidence, his contribution helped an artist, just like Ester.

Ora Uziel was a neighbor and close friend of Ester Horan z”l. Ora and Ester shared a Shabbat meal just days before the tragic murder. They also shared a love for their community, Tal Menashe and their love for art. Ora was very touched by the fact that Stephen wanted to help her, in honor of the friend. With Stephen’s contribution, Bikurim worked one on one with Ora to expand her know-how in expanding her business online. Through contributions and help from Bikurim and with training, Ora now has and manages her first ecommerce art gallery where people from all over the world can purchase her beautiful work. As a token of appreciation, Ora sent Stephen a copy of the portrait she painted in memory of Ester. Today, Ora has increased her reach, raised her prices, and is now selling around the world giving her more financial stability.
